Arsenal Reclaims Premier League Lead after a hard-earned and composed 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. It was a night where determination, tactical discipline, and sharp execution made all the difference. Leandro Trossard’s well-taken goal in the 58th minute sealed all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side, extending their winning streak to five matches across all competitions and reaffirming their ambitions in the Premier League title race.

Commanding Start from Arteta’s Men

From the first whistle, Arsenal looked confident and organized, pressing high and maintaining control of possession. Martin Ødegaard dictated the tempo in midfield with precise passing, while Declan Rice provided stability, intercepting dangerous balls and breaking down Fulham’s counters. The Gunners’ dominance was clear as they kept Fulham pinned in their own half for large spells of the opening period.

Arsenal’s first real chance came through Bukayo Saka, who combined with Ødegaard on the right flank before firing a curling shot narrowly wide. Gabriel Martinelli also tested Bernd Leno with a low drive, but the former Arsenal goalkeeper stood firm to deny him.

Despite Arsenal’s pressure, Fulham held their shape defensively. Marco Silva’s side aimed to frustrate the visitors and catch them on the break, but they rarely succeeded in getting the ball beyond Arsenal’s pressing line.

Trossard’s Breakthrough Moment

The breakthrough came just before the hour mark from a cleverly worked corner. Ødegaard delivered a low pass to Saka near the edge of the box, who quickly flicked the ball into the crowded area. The deflection fell kindly to Leandro Trossard, and the Belgian made no mistake, flicking the ball beyond Leno to give Arsenal the lead.

It was a reward for Arsenal’s patience and persistence. Trossard’s finish demonstrated his instinctive positioning and composure, qualities that have made him an invaluable squad player since joining from Brighton. The goal also highlighted Arteta’s focus on set-piece efficiency — an area where Arsenal continue to improve each season under his guidance.

VAR Controversy and Arsenal’s Composure

The game’s biggest talking point arrived minutes later when Bukayo Saka was brought down in the box by Antonee Robinson. The referee pointed to the spot, but after a lengthy VAR review, the decision was overturned. The moment sparked outrage among Arsenal supporters and visible frustration from Saka.

Yet, rather than lose focus, Arsenal stayed composed and continued to manage the game professionally. This mental resilience — once lacking in previous seasons — has become a hallmark of Arteta’s evolving team. Every player understood their role, from Rice’s controlled midfield play to the defensive concentration of Saliba and Gabriel at the back.

Impenetrable Defense Once Again

Defensively, Arsenal were flawless. For the second consecutive Premier League match, they allowed zero shots on target, underlining their growing defensive authority. William Saliba’s anticipation, Gabriel Magalhães’ physicality, and goalkeeper David Raya’s calm distribution formed the backbone of another clean sheet.

Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu contributed solidly on the flanks, providing both defensive cover and overlapping runs when required. This collective discipline ensured that Fulham’s main threats, such as Raúl Jiménez and Willian, were kept silent for most of the evening.

Arteta’s Tactical Evolution and Team Depth

Mikel Arteta’s side continues to show tactical flexibility. He rotated effectively, bringing on Jorginho and Emile Smith Rowe to maintain control late in the game. The balance between offense and defense was impressive — a sign of a maturing squad capable of grinding out results when needed.

Arteta’s philosophy emphasizes possession-based football, pressing intensity, and structured buildup from the back. What stands out this season is Arsenal’s ability to win in different ways — whether through high-scoring performances or narrow, professional victories like this one.

Five Wins in a Row: Arsenal’s Momentum Builds

This victory marks Arsenal’s fifth straight win across competitions, pushing them to 20 points from eight games — three clear of Liverpool, who sit second. With Manchester City and Tottenham close behind, the title race remains tight, but Arsenal’s form has positioned them firmly as frontrunners.

The return of injured players such as Gabriel Jesus has strengthened Arteta’s attacking options, while Kai Havertz’s growing confidence offers tactical diversity. Arsenal’s strength in depth — with players like Trossard, Smith Rowe, and Jorginho ready to contribute — is allowing Arteta to rotate without losing intensity.

Eyes Set on the Title Race

For Arsenal supporters, this season feels like a continuation of last year’s progress. The Gunners are not just playing beautiful football — they are demonstrating championship mentality, grinding out results even when performances are not flawless.

Arteta praised his players after the match, emphasizing that consistency, unity, and tactical discipline will be vital in sustaining their challenge through the long Premier League campaign. He also commended Trossard’s professionalism and the team’s collective effort to stay compact defensively.

If Arsenal can maintain this rhythm, avoid major injuries, and handle upcoming fixtures against top rivals, they could very well end their two-decade wait for the Premier League trophy.

At this rate, the North London club looks more balanced, determined, and tactically refined than ever — sending a strong message to their rivals that Arsenal are back where they belong — at the top of English football.
