How to Screen Record iPhone Content on Mac and Windows Using Screen Sharing

iPhones come with many advanced features, but one of the most notable restrictions is the inability to record or capture content from protected apps. This includes blocking screen recording and screenshots on apps such as streaming services, social media platforms, and other secure applications. While these restrictions are in place to protect content, there are workarounds that allow users to record or share their iPhone screen on other devices.

If you want to record a protected app on your iPhone, one of the simplest methods is by mirroring your iPhone’s screen to a Mac or Windows computer. From there, you can record the screen without encountering the usual restrictions. This process involves using screen-sharing tools to mirror your iPhone’s display to your computer, then using the screen recording feature on the computer to capture everything.

In this article, we’ll walk you through how to screen share your iPhone to a Mac and Windows PC, and how to record the screen on those devices. We’ll cover both Mac-to-iPhone and Windows-to-iPhone screen sharing methods to give you full flexibility.

Why Screen Share and Record from a Computer?

When apps restrict screen recording or screenshots, they use features such as FLAG_SECURE in Android or iOS to prevent unauthorized capturing of content. However, by using screen mirroring, you can bypass these restrictions and record the screen from a different device—without modifying your iPhone.

Screen mirroring allows you to display your iPhone’s screen on another device and capture it using screen recording software. This method is particularly useful for apps that disable direct screen recording, such as streaming apps, banking apps, or other secure platforms.

How to Screen Record iPhone to Mac

To mirror and record your iPhone’s screen on a Mac, you can use the built-in AirPlay feature, which lets you wirelessly stream your iPhone’s display to your Mac. Once the screen is mirrored, you can use macOS’s screen recording tools to capture the content.

Step-by-Step Guide for iPhone to Mac Screen Sharing and Recording:

  1. Connect to the Same Wi-Fi Network:
    • Ensure that both your iPhone and Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is essential for screen mirroring to work properly.
  2. Open the Control Center on Your iPhone:
    • On your iPhone, swipe down from the top-right corner to open the Control Center.
  3. Tap the Screen Mirroring Button:
    • In the Control Center, tap on the Screen Mirroring button. This will display a list of available devices to which you can mirror your iPhone’s screen.
    • Select your Mac from the list. The iPhone’s screen should now appear on your Mac.
  4. Start Screen Recording on Your Mac:
    • On your Mac, press Shift + Command + 5 to bring up the screen recording toolbar.
    • The toolbar will allow you to select the area of the screen you want to record. Choose the area that includes the mirrored iPhone display.
    • Click on the Record button to start capturing the screen.
  5. Stop Recording:
    • When you’re finished, click the Stop button in the menu bar on your Mac to end the recording. The video will be saved automatically to your desktop or the designated save folder.

By following these steps, you can easily record content from protected apps on your iPhone by mirroring it to your Mac and using macOS’s built-in screen recording tools.

How to Screen Record iPhone to Windows PC

For Windows users, ApowerMirror, Zoom, or other third-party apps can be used to mirror your iPhone’s screen to a Windows PC. After the screen is mirrored, you can use Windows tools to select a portion of the screen to record.

Step-by-Step Guide for iPhone to Windows Screen Sharing and Recording:

  1. Install ApowerMirror or Zoom on Both Devices:
    • First, download and install ApowerMirror on both your iPhone and Windows PC. Alternatively, you can use Zoom for this method as well.
  2. Connect Your Devices:
    • Ensure that both your iPhone and Windows PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    • Open the ApowerMirror or Zoom app on both devices.
    • For ApowerMirror, follow the on-screen prompts to connect your devices using either Wi-Fi or a USB cable.
    • For Zoom, create a meeting on your PC, and join it from your iPhone by entering the meeting ID.
  3. Start Screen Mirroring:
    • On ApowerMirror, tap Screen Mirroring on your iPhone and select your PC from the available devices. Your iPhone screen should now be mirrored to the PC.
    • On Zoom, tap the Share Content button on your iPhone and select Screen to mirror your iPhone to the Windows PC.
  4. Start Screen Recording on Your PC:
    • Once the screen is mirrored to your PC, you can begin screen recording.
    • Press Win + Shift + S on your Windows keyboard to open the Snipping Tool. You’ll see the option to capture a portion of the screen.
    • After selecting the area you want to record, click the video icon in the Snipping Tool to start recording.
    • If you don’t have the Snipping Tool, you can use a screen recording app like OBS Studio or XSplit for more advanced recording options.
  5. Stop the Recording:
    • Once you’re finished recording, stop the recording in the Snipping Tool or your chosen screen recording software.
    • Save the recorded file to your desired location on your Windows PC.

Using this method, you can easily record your iPhone’s screen on a Windows PC without encountering the black screen issue that often occurs in restricted apps.
