Ukrainian telecom leader Kyivstar has launched its first Kyivstar 5G test Ukraine in the western city of Lviv. The company announced the milestone on Monday, marking a key step in advancing next-generation connectivity—even as the war with Russia continues.
The 5G pilot operates under a framework set by Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation. Government officials selected Lviv due to its large population and advanced digital infrastructure. Kyivstar confirmed it will soon extend testing to Kharkiv and Borodianka. Additional pilots in Kyiv and Odesa are scheduled for 2026.
This initiative reflects Ukraine’s push to modernize despite ongoing conflict. However, Kyivstar stressed that a full nationwide 5G rollout remains dependent on the war’s end. Until then, the focus stays on controlled urban trials to evaluate performance, coverage, and user experience.
The move also signals resilience in Ukraine’s tech sector. By investing in future-ready networks during wartime, Kyivstar aims to position the country for rapid digital recovery post-conflict. The government views 5G as critical for economic growth, smart cities, and defense communications.
