The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is the government body responsible for placing students into universities and colleges in Kenya. If you sat for your KCSE, you can apply for degree, diploma, certificate, or artisan courses through the KUCCPS portal.

This article will guide you step by step on how to apply for KUCCPS, requirements, and important tips to secure your preferred course and institution.

Who Can Apply for KUCCPS?

  • KCSE candidates who meet minimum university or college entry requirements.
  • Students seeking diploma, certificate, or artisan courses in TVET institutions.
  • Both first-time applicants and those applying for revisions during KUCCPS window.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for KUCCPS

  1. Visit the KUCCPS Student Portal
    • Go to KUCCPS website.
  2. Log in to Your Account
    • Enter your KCSE Index Number, KCSE Year, and use your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE Index Number as password.
  3. Access the Application Section
    • Once logged in, click on Applications/Revision of Choices.
  4. Search for Courses and Institutions
    • Use the Course Search tool to filter programs by cluster, university, or college.
    • Check cluster points to ensure you qualify.
  5. Enter Course Codes
    • Each program has a unique code (e.g., 1213445).
    • Enter your preferred degree/diploma/certificate codes in the application form.
  6. Arrange Your Choices
    • For degree: Choose 1(a), 1(b), 1(c), and 1(d) as top four choices (same course, different universities).
    • For other levels: List multiple courses in order of preference.
  7. Pay the Application Fee
    • Go to M-Pesa Menu → Lipa na M-Pesa → Pay Bill.
    • Enter KUCCPS Business Number: 820201.
    • Use your KCSE Index Number as the Account Number.
    • Enter the required amount (usually KES 1,500 for first application or KES 1,000 for revision).
  8. Submit Application
    • After payment, click Submit.
    • A confirmation message will appear on your portal dashboard.

KUCCPS Application Fees

  • KES 1,500 – First-time applicants.
  • KES 1,000 – Students revising their earlier application.

Important KUCCPS Tips

  • Always check minimum entry requirements before applying.
  • Apply early to avoid last-minute portal congestion.
  • Have backup courses in case you don’t meet cluster points.
  • Keep the M-Pesa transaction message as proof of payment.

KUCCPS Deadlines

  • KUCCPS applications are usually open after KCSE results are released.
  • Revision windows are announced on the KUCCPS website and media channels.
  • Missing the deadline means you may lose placement for that academic year.

Final Thoughts

Applying for KUCCPS is simple once you know the process. With your KCSE details, course codes, and application fee, you can apply for your dream course and institution from the comfort of your home.

Stay updated on application deadlines and make sure you meet the minimum entry requirements for your chosen program.
